Originally, Ed Wood's campy ''Plan 9 from Outer Space'' was to feature actress Maila Nurmi as her classic horror hostess character from the self-titled series, ''The Vampira Show''. However, Nurmi told Boxoffice that Wood's dialogue was so awful (it is universally regarded as one of the worst films of all time), she sought and received permission to perform her entire role in a mute and spellbound manner she referred to as "Maila in an Alpha state".

In the movie, the Vampire Girl is one of many dead humans resurrected as "ghouls" by the alien Eros to serve as his species' messengers on Earth, meant to cause chaos to make humanity listen to the aliens' demands that they cease weapons research and thus not discover solaronite, a substance which "explodes sunlight molecules" and could therefore destroy the universe. After Eros's flying saucer was destroyed in a fire, the various ghouls are seen decomposing back into skeletons.

* Although she is often conflated, the Vampire Girl in ''Plan 9 from Outer Space'' is not technically the same character as Vampira, Maila Nurmi's previous horror-host character from ''The Vampira Show''. Unlike ''Plan 9 from Outer Space'', ''The Vampira Show'' is not in the public domain, and the name of "Vampira" should therefore not be used for works leaning on the public-domain status of "the Vampire Girl".
* Interestingly, the word "vampira" is used for the female version of vampires in languages ​​such as Spanish and Portuguese.
