Sally is the companion to Emmet Blake, traveling on vacation with he and his father, Inspector Blake. Sally clearly carries an attraction for Emmet, although Emmet seems a bit oblivious to it. Getting road weary, the trio stops in a sleepy seaside town of Cliffside. There, she assists while Emmet tries to solve the mystery of Mr. Throckmorton, an avid collector of live birds. His wife, Agnes Throckmorton and his sometimes assistant, Tom Bridges, are in love with each other, and conspire to murder Agnes's husband.
