The Angels of Mons is a World War I legend claiming that supernatural beings protected British troops during the 1914 Battle of Mons.
The story largely originated from Arthur Machen’s fictional tale ''“The Bowmen,”'' which was mistakenly taken as fact and evolved into reports of angels, ghostly archers, and other visions aiding soldiers. Despite widespread belief and use as morale-boosting propaganda, investigations found no reliable firsthand evidence, and the legend is now considered a mix of fiction, rumor, and wartime mythmaking.
The Angels of Mons are incorporeal and translucent, and can appear or disappear at will. They are highly skilled in archery.

After returning to England and being ordered to stay silent, Ian is visited by one of the archers, who urges him to record their story when possible.
