Joyce Lawrence is a prominent biologist who heads a mission to the planet Aldebaran to find the source of a recording of mysterious and hypnotic music.

When Bruce Hunter, commanding officer of a salvage yard for spaceships, is grounded from space travel due to "space radiation sickness," he tells his paramour, prominent biologist Joyce Lawrence, that she should travel while he cannot. After a wreck comes in from Aldebaran, the pilot's body is petrified and there is a recording disc of amazing and hypnotic music that becomes enormously popular. A mission headed by Joyce, accompanied by Captain Jackson, is planned to seek the music’s source near Aldebaran. When Jackson plays his violin, he is accosted by the Music Makers of Alderbaran, a group of mobile, sound-sensitive trees that are the source of the music.

After Joyce sends a message to Earth, Bruce takes a crew to rescue her, using sound to drive the creatures away, with Joyce having retrieved full recordings of their music.
