Mr. Lodge is a businessman and one of the wealthiest men in Riverdale, residing in a mansion, with a butler. He has also been depicted as an elected official, working in Washington, D.C. in his earliest appearances, suggesting he's a retired politician in later depictions which omit any political activity.

He is the father of Veronica, one of Archie's love interests, and frequently tries to get rid of the boy, who he feels pesters him, going as far as installing electronic systems to prevent the Archie from coming near his home. These plans frequently backfire, with hilarious results.

*Mr. Lodge has been called by different names including "J.P.," "Albert," "Henry," and most commonly "Hiram,".
* In 1973, Archie artist Al Hartley, became a born again Christian in 1967, had the Archie characters licensed from John Goldwater, producing them for publisher Fleming H. Revell's Spire Christian Comics from 1973-1984, with Dan DeCarlo sometimes contributing. These primarily focused on Christianity, where he is shown as changing after reading the bible. Their issues featuring the Archie characters published in 1973 lacked copyright notices, Spire generally had a poor record for including copyright notices, particularly for their 1970s releases.
