Orphan Annie is a spirited redheaded American orphan who has lived in an orphanage since infancy but whose life changes when, in September 1924, she is taken in by wealthy Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks and his wife.

In 1925, Annie rescued a small puppy from a group of boys behind Mrs. Bottle's store. Annie named him Sandy. Sandy was entrusted to the care of Paddy Lynch as the Bottles did not allow Annie to keep the dog, but was reunited with his owner when Annie was kidnapped by a group of Gypsies. A fully grown Sandy came to Annie's rescue, and the two have been together since.
