Mona the Panther Girl was created by the scientist Robert Lewis. Lewis was experimenting with a hormone gas that had the ability to revive the dead. As he experimented with it on animals, he discovered it had the strange side effect of transforming the animals into completely different creatures. A dead rabbit he had applied the gas to was resurrected as a fox. Lewis purchased a panther from an exotic animal breeder, and after killing it with a nerve gas, he applied his hormone formula to the corpse.

Lewis was surprised when the panther was reincarnated as a young woman. She still possessing the savage mind of her original form, so Lewis took it upon himself to educate her into being human. She quickly learned to speak and act human, and Lewis began to fall in love with her. Mona's predatory nature remained, and late at night on a full moon she reverted to her original form and attacked someone on the street. Lewis learned of the attack, and was concerned Mona was responsible, but put those doubts aside because of his love for her.

On the day of their wedding, Lewis met Mona before the ceremony. His fears about her nature came to the forefront, and Mona reacted violently. She transformed into her cat form and killed Lewis. Still in her panther form, she caused a panic in the wedding attendees at the church as she charged through the crowd and broke loose through a window. Lewis' body was soon found, and Mona was reported missing.

While Mona was originally a panther, she gained the ability to transform into a human being after her exposure to Robert Lewis' hormone gas. She showed a great deal of intelligence, being able to adapt to life as a human quickly. As a human, Mona still showed a great affinity to big cats, since she was able to calm an escaped zoo leopard and return it to its cage.
