Casper is a translucent ghost of a pleasant and personable demeanor, occupying either a haunted house or cemetery with a community of other ghosts who delight in scaring the living. Because of his friendly, nonconformist nature and want to make friends with mortals, Casper was often the subject of mockery by the other spirits. Casper eventually left his abode to make his own friends but was often met with both fear & hostility by both animals & people alike. But despite his unwelcome disposition, Casper still managed to make a couple of friends - including Johnnie and Bonnie, Ferdie Fox, Dudley Duck, King Luna, Wheezy, & Wendy the Good Little Witch.

The details on Casper's life before he became a ghost are unknown, aside from the fact that he had an unspecified number of brothers & sisters who are now ghosts as well.

Being a spectral spirit, Casper can naturally defy physics. He can float, is capable of flight, and can pass through walls and other solid objects. His body is also fabric-like, capable of draping itself over objects like a shroud, enabling him to blend into his surroundings.

* The court case ''Harvey Cartoons v. Columbia Pictures Industries, 645 F. Supp. 1564 (S.D.N.Y. 1986)'' came about because Harvey sued Columbia Pictures over the Ghostbusters logo resembling Fatso. However, the case ended up establishing in court that the copyright for the first Casper cartoon expired due to failure to renew, & that ''Casper'' comics before 1956 also had their copyright deliberately allowed to be expired. This was partly what allowed Columbia to win the case and continue using their Ghostbusters logo.
