Commodore Ambord was an explorer aidied by Lt. Brundage and the biologist Prof. Hudker. The group decided to travel on the Commodore's tramp steamer Katy to Maiden Island. On the island, they hoped to look into the mystery of men, called Werdolfs, who supposedly can transform themselves and others into goats.

Ambord's personality was that he was only interested in the pursuit knowledge for knowledge's sake. For example, they seem to take the Werdorf named Sivad's account without question and don't seem interested in correcting any rumored abuses or wrong doings.
