'''Goopy Geer''' is a tall, lanky humanoid dog with scruffy whiskers and long, expressive ears. He was the last attempt by animator Rudolf Ising to feature a recurring character in the ''Merrie Melodies'' series of films. Like most other early sound-era cartoon characters, Ising's Goopy has little personality of his own. Instead, he sings and dances his way through a musical world in perfect syncopation.
In the first appearance, Goopy Geer plays a popular pianist entertaining at a nightclub. In his other two films, both released the same year, the dog played the part of a hillbilly, then as a court jester. He is accompanied by his unnamed girlfriend who debuted in the earlier ''Merrie Melodie'' "Freddy the Freshman" without him.

*A month after Goopy Geer's first cartoon had been released, Walt Disney released ''Mickey's Revue'', the cartoon debut of Goofy (or Dippy Dawg as he was originally called), whose overall appearance was very similar to that of Goopy Geer. Due to the close proximity of the two cartoons' releases and several month long productions, there is little chance that either character was intended to be a copy of the other.
*Goopy appears in a prototypical design with a black fur coat in Piggy cartoon short "you don't know what your doin'!".
*Goopy makes a cameo in cartoon "Freddy The Freshman" which was released two months before Goopy's first official debut.
*In all of his appearances, Goopy is depicted as light colored, but in an early promotional drawing for his first cartoon, he had black fur.
*He would later reappear in the 1992 Tiny Toon Adventures episode "Two-Tone Town" alongside the fellow Ising creation, Foxy and his girlfriend.
