Hanson Riordan was policeman tried of being a traffic cop and wanted to be fighting crime instead. One day, He saved an old man from being runover by the getaway car of a gang of bank robbers led by Gus Gorilla. Riordan pursues them but was shot and killed.

Arriving at heaven's pearly gates, Riordan witnessed General Yamamoto being sent to Hell. He also discovers that he is not on the list to have died that day. St. Peter then calls forth the Collector from the Sands of Time Department to account for this error.

Surprisingly, the Collector turned out to be the old man the office had saved earlier. The old man explained that the gangster Gus Gorilla was to have died when the car swerved to avoid the old man. However that fate was averted when Riordan had “saved” him. Deciding that fresh blood was needed in the Sands of Time Dept., Riordan was made the newest Collector and sent back to Earth collect Gus Gorilla.

His spirit re-animated his body and he then quickly chased down Gus. Terrified at having seen a “dead” cop running pace with the car, Gus panicked and caused the car to go out of control. Gus does not survive the car crash and Riordan was then told that his body will now have much greater power. However, the only power seen in this story was super speed.
