Stylish working-class young woman '''Tillie Jones''' navigated the trials and tribulations of urban life during the early to mid-20th century, having worked as a stenographer, secretary and part-time model for a fashionable women's wear company run by clothing mogul J. Simpkins.

An attractive brunette with an impeccable taste for the latest fashion, Tillie had no problem finding charming and wealthy men to escort her around town. She often finds herself entangled in humorous and sometimes tumultuous romantic escapades with male characters, including her coworkers and suitors. She had a steady male associate, Clarence MacDougall, who loved her persistently, despite her inability to reciprocate the feelings.

Tillie is a hardworking, unpredictable woman who takes on various roles in her workplace, reflecting the changing roles of women in the workforce. Despite her ups and downs, including quitting and firing, Tillie maintains a positive attitude and good sense of humor. She joined the U.S. Army during World War II before returning to work for Simpkins.
