'''Ralph Wiley''' is a sociopath college drop-out hired by Jack Perry and Mae Coleman to sell marijuana. When one of his targets, Mary Lane, visits Coleman's apartment, he is there to give her her first joint, which she believes to simply be a cigarette, and attempts to sexually assault her. When Mary's boyfriend, Bill Harper walks in, he is high and believes Mary is cheating on him, leading him to attack Wiley - Jack intervenes by knocking out Bill with his gun, accidentally firing it and killing Mary. Jack puts the gun in unconscious Bill's hand as to frame him. Ralph gains a paranoia from both guilt and his highs, while Jack's boss tells him to assassinate Ralph so he doesn't confess what he did, though when Jack arrives Ralph kills him instead. Ultimately, everyone involved in the drug scheme is arrested, and Ralph is sent to a mental asylum for the rest of his life.
