Marcia Davis was upset when a road construction crew removed a large boulder blocking a cave convinced that it had freed the spirit of her witch ancestor. No one believed her however including her fiancé Bill Cooper, her Aunt Agatha, and her guardian Mr. Walker. Days later, new reporter Isobel Blake was sent the Daily Star to investigate the stories of a witch running around the “Spit-in-Devil” or “Spittin’ Devil” countryside and convinced her friend Lash Lightning to come along.

The pair dismissed the stories as local superstitions at first, but their attitude changed when they witnessed a witch push over a large boulder into the car driving them up the mountain and killing the driver. The heroes then changed into their costumes and find the witch at the old mill. There they discovered dead body of Bill Cooper and also find Mr. Walker and Aunt Agatha prowling about along with the unconscious body of Marcia in the distance.

Returning to the Davis home, Lighting and Lighting Girl announced the mystery at the mill would be solved by investigating the cave. However, the witch blocked Lightning into the cave and then strikes at the mill where Lightning Girl was investigating.

Lightning Girl destroyed the mill wheel before she can be thrown in, but the witch in her madness jumps to her death. Later, the heroes revealed the witch to have been Marcia all along. in her obsession with her witch ancestor, Marcia came to believe she was a witch as well. Lightning Girl figured out the truth when the mud on Marcia’s shoes matched that of the banks of the river which was unique from anywhere else on the Davis estate.
