'''Harold Simpson Teen''' (nicknamed "Simp") is a typical American teenager in the early 20th century - a lanky, awkward high school student with a penchant for mischief, a love for fun, and a tendency to find himself in humorous and often precarious situations. Despite his good intentions, Harold's escapades frequently land him in trouble with authority figures, such as his parents, teachers, or the local sheriff.

Despite his occasional missteps, Harold possesses a good heart and a strong sense of loyalty to his friends and family. He is quick to lend a helping hand and is always ready to stand up for what he believes in, even if it means facing the consequences of his actions. His friends include Alec "Shadow" Smart and Pop Jenks, the proprietor of the Sugar Bowl soda shop that Harold and his circle of friends often frequent.

One of Harold's defining traits is his romantic aspirations, particularly his pursuit of his love interest, Lillums Lovewell, which forms the crux of many storylines, showcasing Harold's awkward attempts at wooing her and the humorous misunderstandings that arise from his efforts.

His signature catchphrase is "Yowsah!"

*According to Ed in an interview, he began the comic strip because, at the time, "...there was no comic strip on adolescence. I thought every well-balanced comic sheet should have one." The success of the strip would later influence the creation of characters like Archie Andrews.
