Lady Arabella March is the cold-blooded Mistress of Diana's Grove, a mortgaged estate of ancient Druid origins owned by her father, Lord Lieutenant of the County. Her goal is to pressure Edgar Caswall to marry her, allowing her to become "chatelaine of Castra Regis." She uses her abilities and experience to convince men to commit themselves.

Lady Arabella is a woman of striking beauty and immense wealth, exuding an air of sophistication and refinement, which masks her sinister and manipulative nature. She is described as tall, with regal bearing, and possessing hypnotic eyes that seem to hold a power of their own.

Despite her outward charm, there's an underlying aura of menace surrounding her. When Adam Salton brought his pet mongoose on his shoulders as he was approaching Lady Arabella on the same path, the animal’s behaviour changed from a playful state to a wild fury, jumping from Adam’s shoulder and ranning towards Lady Arabella who drew out a revolver and shot the animal dead in its tracks, unloading the magazine until it was exhausted.

Lady Arabella is cunning and calculating, adept at manipulating those around her to achieve her own ends. She exerts a magnetic influence over men, using her allure to ensnare them in her web of deceit. However, beneath her façade of elegance lies a deep-seated malevolence, as she is revealed to be an occult worshipper of the ancient serpent god, Dionysius.

As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that Lady Arabella is deeply entwined with the mysterious happenings in the vicinity of Diana's Grove, particularly the sightings of a monstrous White Worm.
