In town the pair discover the reputation of the manor, frightening everyone so many servants would not even work in it, the town's doctor even showed dread.

In the mansion Don finds his uncle's notebook describing the evil of Marzo and being a man of science Don sets out to disprove the superstition around the place. In the cellar, Don finds the coffin and cracks it open with an axe causing it to open and releasing the demon inside. The demon vows destruction and chaos but spares the couple for freeing it granting them three wishes for his freedom. Marzo wreaks havoc on the town and surrounding area, murdering and destroying.

Mary guilt trips Don over his greed while people are suffering causing him to lash out at her "wishing her dead", she is instantly killed by a lightning strike. Remorseful over his blurted-out words he uses his next wish to bring her back to life.
