'''Doug''' is a college-aged man who enjoys drinking grapefruit juice at the beach, he is skilled at swimming, stacking television sets with his dog, and bouncing on pogo sticks, and tends to be annoyed by pelicans.

* Both, the USA Network ident and Florida Grapefruit advert featuring Doug were released without copyright notices and not registered within 5 years, making them public domain under 80s-era copyright law.
* Doug would go on to appear in two self-titled television series, one on Nickelodeon and the other on ABC, and a feature length theatrical film. These iterations of the character, where he was 11 years old instead of a college student, remain under copyright - Disney owns the ''Doug'' supporting cast and the more well-known iteration of the Doug character, while Nickelodeon only keeps the rights to its run of ''Doug'' episodes.
