Nikki Stuart was post graduate student of criminology that had applied for a police technician position. She was an old friend of Barry Dale and attended a lecture he was doing on atomic energy at her college.

She caught up with Barry who had not seen her in four years. Barry commented that she was as lovely as ever but hadn't changed at all thinking she is still a party girl. Nikki corrects him that she has changed and explains that after his comment years ago calling her "a rich society deb with an impoverished intelligence," she decided to get serious about her studies and career.

The pair's conversation is interrupted by a publicity stunt from a magician called the Great Presto who makes an elephant disappear. However the magician's elephant gets loose and begins to go on a rampage. Barry escapes into the crowd and reappears as Atoman to stop the pachyderm and take it to the zoo. However during the excitement some thieves are able to rob a jewelry store.

After reuniting with Barry, Nikki explains that Presto and the jewel thieves were working together with the elephant being a distraction. However when the pair go to the police station to share her theory, a sexist officer refuses to take her seriously. She decides to become a private detective and uses her wealth to create a mobile lab with Barry's help. Nikki decided to take the lab mobile on a drive to find her first client.

While on their drive, Barry and Nikki encounter a large fire started by Presto's latest trick a flock of pigeons released from his top hat and carrying incendiary vials to drop on buildings. Barry excuses himself to become Atoman and used a water tower to help put out the flames. Meanwhile another jewelry store is robbed while everyone was focused on the fire.

Nikki managed to get her hands on a hat belonging to one of the crooks. She uses her lab to analyze it and realizes the crooks are based out of a pottery plant outside of town. When they arrive the pair finds the hideout abandoned but they do discover an schedule left behind revealing the bowery as the next target.

At the bowery, Presto creates a riot by making money appear magically as his next trick knowing the diamonds that they will steal will compensate for the dollar bills used in the trick. However Atoman arrives and stops Presto from escaping by wrapping him up like a mummy.

Nikki arrives only to see Barry who informed her that Atoman has already turned Presto over to the police. She comments that she should be frustrated that Atoman had beaten her on this case but muses that the hero is quite the man and that they'd make quite the team with Barry smirking at her statement.
