Octopus People are a composite mythical being, combining the head, arms and torso of a woman (more rarely a man) and, from the lower torso down, the tentacles of an octopus or squid as a form of mermaid, sea witch, or sea demon.

They are creatures with origins in Asian and Native American mythology, legend and folklore. In particular, accounts of their existence are first recorded among such cultures as the Haida, Tligit, Tsimshian and Nootka tribes.

Among these, the Native Americans seem to attribute a certain connection between the Octopus-People, and the Raven People. In Nuu-chah-nulth myth there is a story titled ''Raven Annoys Octopus''.

One morning, as the tide went out, the old people came to sit and watch the ocean. As they sat there, they saw a woman walking along the beach. Her hair was long and strung into eight braids. Her name was Octopus. There was a digging stick in her hand. She was going to look for clams. She sat down on a rock at the edge of the water and began to dig. Soon, another person came along the beach. That person was tall with glossy black hair. "Look," one of the old people said, "Here comes Raven. He is going to bother Octopus." "Ah" another of the old people said. "That is not a good idea. You shouldn't bother Octopus!" Sure enough, just as the old people expected, Raven. walked right down to the rock where Octopus sat and began to bother her."

The Japanese artist Hokusai produced pieces that featured a woman-octopus hybrid, as well as related pieces showing couplings of women with octopuses.

H. P. Lovecraft's mythology frequently featured squid and octopus hybrids, including both "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and "Dagon".

The Draugr in Norse mythology is occasionally represented as a seaweed covered octopus person.
