Babbitty Bumble is a bumble bee that Mrs. Tittlemouse meets. Babbitty Bumble has taken up residence with three or four other bees in one of the empty storerooms. Mrs. Tittlemouse tries to pull out their nest but they buzz fiercely at her, and she retreats to deal with the matter after dinner.

Later, Mr. Jackson goes down the passage and meets Babbity Bumble. Mr. Jackson says he does not like bumblebees and, to Mrs. Tittlemouse's dismay, Babbity calls him a "nasty old toad." Mrs. Tittlemouse shuts herself up in the nut cellar while Mr. Jackson pulls out the bees nest.
