The Red-Headed Baby, a doll created by a toymaker on Christmas Eve, comes to life after he leaves. She joyfully sings the titular song and meets a soldier who immediately falls for her. When a giant spider, also smitten with her, kidnaps her and attacks the soldier, she becomes the focus of a daring rescue. The soldier defeats the spider using a toy train, and the red-haired doll is reunited with him as the other toys celebrate, with her song closing the cartoon.
