Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, was an English mathematician and writer, best known for her work on Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine. She is often regarded as the first computer programmer for creating an algorithm to calculate Bernoulli numbers on the machine and for envisioning its broader potential beyond calculations.

The only legitimate child of poet Lord Byron and Anne Isabella Milbanke, Ada was encouraged by her mother to pursue mathematics and logic. She married William King, later Earl of Lovelace, becoming Countess of Lovelace.

Her education and social connections brought her into contact with leading scientists and intellectuals, including Michael Faraday and Charles Dickens. At eighteen, she began a lifelong collaboration with Babbage. Between 1842–1843, she translated Luigi Menabrea’s article on the Analytical Engine, adding extensive notes that laid the foundation for modern programming.
Ada’s visionary insights included the idea that computers could manipulate symbols beyond numbers, influencing future concepts of computing. She is widely commemorated today, with her name used for programming languages, institutions, and public memorials.
