Though her historical name was unrecorded, folklore celebrates her as highly intelligent, skilled in strategy, astronomy, divination, and invention. Zhuge Liang married her after proving his resolve by visiting her despite tales of her supposed ugliness. Folktales credit her with assisting Zhuge Liang’s inventions, including the wooden ox and flowing horse, as well as other fantastical creations. She died shortly after her husband and is remembered for advising their son to “be loyal and filial,” with a memorial in her alleged hometown near Xiangyang.
