Emily Brontë was an English novelist and poet, best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights (1847), and for co-authoring Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell with her sisters. The fifth of six Brontë siblings, she lost her mother at age three and was mainly educated at home by her father in Haworth.

Emily was close to her siblings, especially Anne, and together they created imaginative stories and journals. She was described as solitary, strong-willed, and deeply connected to nature and animals. Aside from brief periods at school and studying in Brussels, she spent most of her life at home.

Published under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, Wuthering Heights initially received mixed reviews for its dark and intense characters but is now celebrated as a literary classic. Emily died at 30, a year after the novel’s publication.
