Sue Saunders is a journalist who first meets Happy Terrill (the Ray) in Syria while investigating a rival story. She becomes romantically involved with Happy, which draws her into his superhero adventures. She is kidnapped by the serial killer Headsman, but is ultimately rescued by the Ray.
