Nancy Blackett, the bold, imaginative leader of the “Amazons,” whose love of adventure shapes the children’s summer on a Lake District lake. Sailing her dinghy Amazon with her sister Peggy, Nancy quickly forges an alliance and friendly rivalry with the visiting Walker children, embracing pirate games, strategy, and leadership contests to decide who will command their mock campaign against her estranged uncle, Jim Turner (“Captain Flint”).

Nancy’s fierce independence, sense of justice, and flair for drama drive much of the action, from daring boat captures to mock battles and trials. Although her uncle initially withdraws from the children and wrongly suspects them of theft, Nancy’s loyalty and persistence help restore peace, reunite Turner with the children’s adventures.
