The Wise Woman is a mysterious and powerful figure who serves as the moral and spiritual mentor in the story. Though she appears simple and unassuming, the Wise Woman possesses a deep wisdom and otherworldly abilities that allow her to reveal truths about a person's inner character - most notably through the use of a magical mirror that reflects the true nature of one's "Inner Self."

One day, she is summoned by the King and Queen to help correct the unruly behavior of their spoiled daughter, Princess Rosamond. When her consul fails, she kidnaps Rosamond from the palace and takes her to her isolated cottage in a distant forest, haunted by man-eating wolves and birds. Instead of punishment, she combines discipline, kindness, and supernatural insight to lead Rosamond toward self-awareness and growth. Through trials and visions, the Wise Woman challenges Rosamond to confront her flaws and learn humility and self-control.

Later, the Wise Woman intervenes in another conceited girl’s life, Agnes, a shepherd’s daughter. Unlike Rosamond, Agnes denies her flaws and plots revenge by blaming her parents for seemingly replacing her with Rosamond. The shepherd and his wife are captured by the king's soldiers and interrogated, but a reformed Rosamand intervenes and stops the execution.

As Rosamond’s transformation wraps up, it’s evident that the Wise Woman has always recognized the potential within her, highlighting that true wisdom is about spotting the good in people, even when they’re imperfect.
