Some scholars suggest a mythological interpretation connecting her husband Fárbauti (“dangerous hitter,” possibly lightning) with leaves or trees, symbolically giving rise to fire.

In the Prose Edda, particularly in Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál by Snorri Sturluson, she is named as Loki’s mother and the wife of Fárbauti. She is also listed among the Ásynjar (goddesses), which may help explain Loki’s association with the Æsir.
