Mickey and Minnie Mouse lead a wagon train of pioneers west through the desert while a tribe of wolf-like Indians secretly prepares to attack the settlers. The group includes many types of animals including dogs, pigs, cats, goats, cows, and more.
After circling their covered wagons for the evening, the pioneers gather around camp to sing, dance, and celebrate frontier life. Among the entertainers is an old goat who performs a slow, mournful rendition of “Darling Nelly Gray,” adding a reflective moment that contrasts with the camp’s otherwise cheerful atmosphere and hints at the hardships of pioneer life. The peaceful evening is interrupted when the tribe attacks, leading to a chaotic but comedic battle involving arrows, gunfire, and Mickey using porcupine quills to scare off attackers. When Minnie is captured, Mickey rushes to rescue her, though Minnie ultimately helps defeat her captor by dropping a hot coal down his pants. Mickey and Minnie then trick the attackers into believing reinforcements have arrived, causing the tribe to retreat while the settlers celebrate their victory.
