Kur is a figure and concept from ancient Mesopotamian mythology, particularly in Sumerian traditions. The name Kur could refer to several related ideas:

* The underworld (Netherworld), the realm of the dead.
* A monstrous dragon-like being associated with the underworld and primordial chaos.

In Sumerian art, Kur was often depicted as a dragon or serpent emerging from the primordial sea.

According to one myth, Kur abducted the goddess Ereshkigal and carried her to the Netherworld, where she became its queen. Although the god Enki later defeated the dragon, Ereshkigal remained in the underworld and eventually ruled it as her own kingdom. Later myths involving Nergal portray her in a more complex and sympathetic light.

In the Babylonian creation epic Enūma Eliš, Kur appears among the forces allied with the chaos goddess Tiamat. There he is portrayed as a serpentine dragon and one of the monstrous beings created to aid her in battle against the younger gods.
