Jerry is the only woman in the expedition and serves as the story's main damsel-in-distress, but she is portrayed as courageous and resilient rather than passive. While diving with Chuck Hardy near the Marquesan Islands, she is swept into the hidden world of Aquatania after an undersea volcanic eruption. Like Chuck, she gains enhanced strength, endurance, and the ability to make enormous leaps due to the Hollow Earth's unique conditions.

While exploring the dinosaur filled regions of Roara, Jerry becomes the primary target of the story's villains when she is ambushed and kidnapped while investigating a steam chasm. During her captivity, she actively resists her captors—at one point kicking a Quadropel Man in the stomach—and refuses to be intimidated despite threats of a forced marriage to the ruler, Mighty Ciro. Even when bound to a sacrificial altar above a scalding steam cauldron, she remains defiant, confidently telling her captors that Chuck will rescue her. Her prediction proves true when Chuck arrives just in time to save her from execution. Although shaken by the ordeal, particularly when confronted with the gruesome sight of a severed head brought back by Oxan, Jerry consistently demonstrates bravery, determination, and unwavering confidence throughout their adventures.
