Flo is a young woman hosting a lively Halloween gathering at her home when she discovers her fiancé, Steve, flirting intensely with Vilma. Consumed by a flash of bitter jealousy and spite, she watches them from afar and makes a momentary, impulsive wish beneath the cursed Philosopher Tree at midnight, wishing that Vilma would turn into a cat. Although Flo initially dismisses the wish as a silly legend, her spiteful thoughts unwittingly trigger Vilma's monstrous curse. Throughout the story, Flo remains terrified of the horrific consequences her jealousy set in motion, narrowly escaping an assassination attempt by a vengeful Vilma before being saved by Steve.
