Jann of the Jungle, otherwise known as Jann, Girl of the Jungle, and Jann, Girl of the Congo is stuntwoman Jane Hastings, a former trapeze artist and animal trainer. While on a film shoot filling in for starlet Eva Dawn, who the director, Pat Mahoney dislikes due to her vanity and poor work ethic. Jann demonstrated physical and mental prowess, wrestling a lion. Congolese who were assisting with the shoot, began calling her Jann, believing her to be her grandmother who previously lived in the Jungle, and gone on adventures.

After diverting a stampede of animals from destroying the film set, and saving the crew, after the crew left to return to Hollywood, She decided to stay in the jungle, to carry on the work of the first Jann, feeling a strange pull to the Jungle, as her grandmother had years before. Pat, who had already relocated to the Congo from Hollywood, decided to join her, watching over her.

Jann and Pat would go on many adventures, fending off Communist plots involving characters such as Screaming Terror and Comrade Kruger, savage beasts, and dinosaurs! Fighting to keep the jungle peaceful and free, well as much as a jungle can be anyway!

Jane is an adept acrobat, animal trainer, and survivalist, able to traverse the untamed Jungles in darkest Africa.

* Jay Scott Pike became the regular artist for her stories after #1, working on them into the 1970s.
* Jann entered the public domain in 1983 as the copyright to her first appearance in Jungle Tales #1 was not renewed. Marvel only filed renewals for issues 8-17, when the series was retitled to "Jann of the Jungle".
