Dotty was Ginger Snapp's original best friend and closest confidante during the character's earliest appearances from 1943 through the late 1940s, before being gradually replaced by Patsy in the early 1950s.

As Ginger's loyal companion, Dotty accompanied her through school adventures, dances, vacations, football games, and countless attempts to win the attention of boys such as Tommy Turner. Unlike the more sarcastic and outspoken Patsy, Dotty was a gentle, supportive, and dependable friend who primarily served as Ginger's sounding board, offering encouragement, listening to her problems, and occasionally helping with her schemes. While she rarely drove the plot herself, Dotty played an important role in establishing Ginger's early cast, appearing regularly alongside the Snapp family and sharing in many of Ginger's lighthearted teenage misadventures.

As the series evolved toward a more energetic, romance-focused format, Dotty quietly disappeared from the cast and Patsy assumed the role of Ginger's primary best friend. Despite her disappearance from the regular series, Dotty remains an important part of Ginger's history, representing the character's original supporting cast and the more wholesome, small-town tone of the early stories.
