Greta is introduced as a fairy witch mother who serves as the primary adult mentor and guardian figure in the early stories. Rather than acting as a strict authority, she offers guidance, advice, and occasional supervision while allowing the young witch to navigate everyday teenage challenges on her own.

Greta often appears when magical mishaps or romantic schemes get out of hand, encouraging more responsible use of magic while providing support and wisdom. Her role established the first consistent parental figure in the series before later stories reworked the continuity, replacing her with another character who permanently assumed the position of the protagonist's aunt.

* Archie Comics omitted the required copyright notice from many comics published between September 1963 and June 1966, including Archie's Madhouse #27–47. Under the law then in effect, these issues have entered the public domain.
* Greta originally served as Sabrina's fairy witch mother and guardian, while Hilda was introduced separately as an unrelated witch and occasional acquaintance. Later stories retroactively replaced Greta's role by redefining Hilda as the protagonist's aunt and primary guardian, effectively merging Greta's parental role into Hilda's character.
