Marguerite Blakeney, née St. Just, is a beautiful, intelligent, and fashionable woman who stands at the center of London society. Before moving to England, she was a successful actress in Paris, where she hosted salons to discuss political and social issues. Although admired for her wit and charm, she came from outside the French aristocracy. She is married to Sir Percy Blakeney, one of England's wealthiest noblemen.

Unknown to most people, Sir Percy is secretly the Scarlet Pimpernel, the daring hero who rescues innocent aristocrats from execution during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror. While Percy hides his true identity behind the appearance of a foolish aristocrat, Marguerite becomes one of his closest allies. She assists him in his dangerous missions alongside the League of the Pimpernel, a loyal group dedicated to saving those condemned to the guillotine.

Throughout the story, Marguerite's intelligence, courage, and devotion make her an essential partner in Percy's efforts. Together, they repeatedly outwit Chauvelin, the ruthless French agent determined to capture the Scarlet Pimpernel and expose his secret identity.
