''"When the frontier town of Red Dog elected Sally Starr its sheriff, mocking laughter rang out form canyon wall to grazing land, and echoed across the western ranges! A girl sheriff! What a Jest! Outlaws and longriders hitched up gunbelts and turned greedy eyes toward easy picking.... but Sally, and her roan stallion Big Red, flashed into action, and the roar of gunfire echoed across the range giving notice of a spine-tingling two-gun tornado called Sheriff Sal!"''

* Western Adventures #1-6
* Western Love Trails #7

* Sheriff Sal was published in the first six issues of the comic book anthology Western Adventures, which became the romantic Western Love Trails starting with issue #7. However, Sal's adventures did not continue in the final two issues of the publication.
* Sally Starr was the stage name of actress Alleen Mae Beller (1923-2013), who performed as a blonde cowgirl. Whether she took inspiration from the comic book character, however, remains unclear.
