Dr. Hypno, a psychologist, had the ability to transfer his mind into animals such as his parrot, a zoo gorilla, and a dog. He used his powers to spy on criminals and solve crimes. He was assisted by his servant Wun who would watch his human body while he was inside another body.

Once while performing in a vaudeville show alongside Lana the Lion Girl, he grew suspicious of her true motives. When she attempted to use her lion, Leo, to assassinate District Attorney Sam Williams, Hypno used his mental powers to seize control of the beast and stop the attack, leading to the downfall of her employer, the mob boss Scarskull.
