Dr. Sivana was a brilliant scientist, far ahead of his time, who wished to benefit humanity with his genius. Unfortunately, no one took his theories seriously, and after being laughed at most of his life, he decided to become a hermit, far from humanity. When he returned to society, his mind was twisted and warped. He decided to use his incredible inventions to make humanity respect him, by becoming the ruler of the universe. He frequently clashed with Captain Marvel.

He had son named Magnificus Sivana who was as physically strong as Captain Marvel and once fought the Captain to help his father's scheme using giant Venusian frogs to succeed, but ultimately was defeated.

Dr. Sivana was an unparalleled scientific genius, capable of producing nearly any kind of technology. Among other things, he built life-like androids, created a shrinking powder, and learned the secrets of invisibility. He was potentially capable of anything. Although he was very small and frail looking, he was actually quite hardy, and was a skilled martial artist.
