Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp (1848–1929) was an American lawman best known for his role in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in 1881. Although he is often portrayed as the central figure in the famous shootout, his brother Virgil Earp, who served as both U.S. Marshal and Tombstone city marshal, led the effort to enforce the town's gun-control ordinance. Wyatt, his brothers Virgil and Morgan, and Doc Holliday killed three members of the Cochise County Cowboys during the confrontation.

Before Tombstone, Wyatt worked as a lawman in Wichita and Dodge City, Kansas, though his career included controversy, arrests, and associations with brothels. In Texas, he met Doc Holliday, whom he later credited with saving his life.

After the O.K. Corral, the Cowboys retaliated by severely wounding Virgil and murdering Morgan. Wyatt responded by leading the Earp Vendetta Ride, organizing a federal posse to hunt down those believed responsible. Unlike his brothers and Holliday, Wyatt was never wounded in the conflicts.

Following his time in Tombstone, Wyatt pursued business ventures and mining opportunities in California, Idaho, and Alaska, including operating the successful Dexter Saloon during the Nome Gold Rush. He later settled in California, where he befriended early Hollywood filmmakers in hopes of bringing his story to the screen.

When Wyatt died in 1929, he was known as much for controversy—particularly his disputed role as referee in the 1896 Fitzsimmons–Sharkey boxing match—as for his law enforcement career. His legendary reputation as a fearless Old West lawman largely developed after his death with the 1931 publication of ''Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal'', which inspired decades of books, films, and television portrayals.
