Dave Kenton, captain of the Star Patrol in the year 3750, kept peace across the solar system while battling threats like Myrza leader of the Vampires of the Void, space pirates, and other criminals.

He often crossed paths with Maeve Malloy, a dancer and undercover reporter for the ''Star Rover''. Their first meeting came on Flayal, when she stole his papers, and later in a pirate tavern where she revealed her true identity and asked his help escaping. Together they sabotaged the pirates’ force-field, allowing Star Patrol reinforcements to save them.

Afterward, they shared a dance, trading playful banter about Kenton’s next mission—going undercover as a convict in a Titan uranium mine to uncover alien raids. Other adventures took him against the women warriors of Mimas, who lured ships with hypnotic songs, and on a suicide mission into a deadly region of space where all vessels vanished. There, Maeve stowed away, only for both to be captured and mind-controlled by Amalfa the Ancient into building traps for passing ships.

Kenton carried a wrist communicator and an "electronic handgun." He was a skilled pilot, a strong fighter, apparently a good swordsman and was generally very resourceful.

In December 1970, Eerie Publications' ''Weird Worlds'' #v1#10 published ''The Space Vampires'', a version of ''Vampires of the Void'' redrawn by Cirilo Muñoz. The villainess Myrza remained the same, but the hero was renamed to Captain Dan Benton, and the vampires' origin was altered, recasting them as terrestrial survivors of an atomic holocaust instead of an alien race from Deneb, thereby simplifying the original's cosmic mythology while keeping its core plot intact.
