The Mysterious Dr. X was a master of the occult sciences, who conducted experiments in an observatory high in the Andes. He was assisted by his niece, Cynthia, and her heroic fiance Bob Stone.  Dr. X's main invention was a ray that could transport Bob and Cynthia to other worlds.  Dr. X was considered the man to turn to when Washington D.C. was baffled in how to deal with catastrophic problems.

*The Nedor comics [http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/cce/firstperiod.html were renewed] by Popular Library, which was eventually bought out by Fawcett Books. When Fawcett went out of business, Popular Library was sold to Warner Bros. A number of different publishers, however, are currently/have been using these characters without any lawsuits from Warner Bros., so any action over them is (probably) unlikely. They are still, however, "use at your own risk" characters.
